A Computational adsorption and DFT studies on corrosion inhibition potential of some derivatives of phenyl-UREA

Trends of inhibiting corrosion by HU1 and HU2 were explored with the use of the theory of density functional (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311 + G(d,p) level of theory. The quantum chemical descriptors calculated for the two compounds or chemical parameters were correlated with its corrosion inhibition efficiency. The molecular descriptors have been analyzed through the function of Fukui and soft local indices, to compare the possible sites of electrophilic and Nucleophilic attack.

Development and Validation of Novel Stability Indicating RP-HPLC Method for the Estimation of Eperisone hydrochloride in Bulk Drug and Pharmaceutical Dosage Form

Research

A simple, novel, precise and accurate stability indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for the estimation of Eperisone hydrochloride in bulk drug and pharmaceutical dosage form. A Fortis H2O (150 mm × 4.6 mm I.D., 5 µm particle size) column was used as stationary phase with mobile phase consisting of 10 mM ammonium formate: acetonitrile in the ratio of 65:35 v/v (pH was adjusted to 3.8 with 0.1% formic acid). The flow rate was maintained at 1.0 mL/min and effluents were monitored at 259 nm. The retention time was 8.150 min. The linearity of the method was observed in the concentration range of 1-100 µg/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.999.

Augmentation of Open Achilles Tendon Repair Using Acellular Dermal Tissue Matrix And Decellularized Particulate Human Placental Connective Tissue Matrix: A Case Report

Research

The purpose of this case study is to investigate the post-operative outcomes of acellular dermal regenerative tissue matrix and allogeneic decellularized particular human placental connective tissue matrix as augmentation grafts during open Achilles tendon repair. In this case, a 47-year-old diabetic African American male presented to clinic eleven days status post near complete rupture of the Achilles tendon, proximal to the insertion on the calcaneus, that occurred while playing soccer. One week after presenting to the clinic, the patient underwent open Achilles tendon repair with augmentation fusing both regenerative tissue matrix and allogenic decellularized particular human placental connective tissue matrix. The patient’s pain (0-10), edema, and erythema were all recorded post-operatively on days 3, 10, 17, 24, and 38 in an outpatient clinical setting. Additionally, post-operatively, the patient was on opioid therapy for a short period of time. Significant improvement was noted in all three categories on post-operative day 17. Such findings indicate that the method of combining acellular dermal matrix and decellularized particulate human placental during an open Achilles tendon repair can possibly accelerate the post-operative course by leading to a quicker participation in physical therapy; consequently, leading to rapid return to daily activity and consuming less opioid pain medication post-operatively.

We read with interest the article [1] about a 48 years old female with chronic alcoholism and Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) due to the variant m.10197 in the ND3 gene who became symptomatic three months after discontinuation of hormone replacement therapy with etonogesterol 0.12mg/d and ethinyl estradiol 0.012mg/d [1]. Vision markedly improved after resuming hormone replacement therapy in addition to starting idebenone 300mg/d, vitamin C, and after reducing alcohol consumption [1]. We have the following comments and concerns.

Flavonoids and sudden death in Parkinsons disease: despite evidence, the defense council must still work hard

We read with great interest the excellent review by Jung and Kim about the beneficial effects of flavonoids, the phytonutrients present in almost all fruits and vegetables, for Parkinson’s disease (PD).1 Appropriately, the authors clearly demonstrated that flavonoids regulate a number of important physiological responses, which may contribute to neuroprotective effects in PD.1 Flavonoids exert their effects by its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties, Hesperidine may attenuate the iron-induced oxidative damage and may withhold dopamine-depletion. From acacetin it is known that it inhibits the death of neurons and chyrsin has a neuroprotective effect. Epigallocatechin has neuro-rescuing effects in a mouse model of PD.

As life-expectancy is increasing, ageing is the most important risk factor for many neurodegenerative diseases driving both morbidity and mortality [1]. A recent review appropriately discussed the current knowledge about both sleep and circadian alterations in Parkinson's disease (PD) and provided recommendations regarding future research directions [2]. Despite recent advances in PD research, some issues have not been deeply debated.

White matter lesions on diffusion tensor imaging may not only be genetic in asymptomatic LHON carriers

With interest we read the article [1] about a study of 14 asymptomatic Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) carriers by means of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements [1]. Except for the right inferior quadrant, RNFL thickness was not different between LHON carriers and healthy controls [1]. On the contrary, fractional anisotropy (FA), was decreased and radial diffusion (RD) and mean diffusion (MD) were increased in LHON carriers [1]. We have the following comments and concerns. Key words: optic atrophy; retinal ganglion cells; vision; white matter lesions; diffusion tensor imaging; mtDNA; oxidative phosphorylation; antioxidants.

The life cycle stages of the spinach moth, Hymenia recurvalis (F.) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), was studied on the host plant, purple amaranth, Amaranthus blitum L. (Caryophyllales: Amaranthaceae) and adults was fed with 5% honey-solution. The larva of these moths is a major defoliator of amaranths in Nigeria and could cause total yield loss.
